The Abandoned Fortress

This means war

Music

"Alright! We did it! We won!" Peter Kirkland cheered. The young boy in blue and white sailor outfit ran around you in circles, celebrating. His black Mary Janes clanked against the cold metal of the fortress. The breeze was pushing the blue ribbon of his hat away, revealing dirty blonde hair. Bright blue eyes peaked out just below the ends of his fiber. The eyes trailed down to you, and the boy jolted to a stop.

"Hello, _______, aren't you going to cheer with me?" the little boy asked. He sat down and scooted over to you. He poked at the side of your face before calling, "_______, wake up! Why are you asleep, silly? Big brother Arthur's going to pick us up soon!"

You were motionless. The young lad pouted, frowned, then grew worried. What if you never woke up? He began to panic like any child would. "_______, I'm being serious! If you don't wake up, I'm gonna start a World War Three! And you wouldn't want that, right _______?" he yelled into your ear.

Nothing. He began to violently shake you back and forth. Was this because the gun shot that went off? You guys were supposed to be celebrating. You had just made it, but not anymore.

Littler Peter tried his best not to cry, but he was only a young boy. A little tear streamed down his soft cheek, gently landing on yours. The little sailor tried to think about what his big brother Arthur would do.

This took the boy quite some time. Days. Yet there you remained, like Sleeping Beauty. As even more time ran by, Peter ran out of food that didn't require cooking. Being a Kirkland, cooking didn't come naturally to him at all. The boy tried to cook an egg by smashing it against the stove, setting the whole fortress on fire.

Peter knew that he really had to think like Arthur now and wake up his Sleeping Beauty.

"Big brother Arthur would probably use medicine, but I don't know how to do that. Oh, I know! He would use magic! Wait a minute, I don't know any magic." he thought out loud, pouting. He sat for a little while longer, thinking about how you were his pretty princess, until he sprang up. "I've got it! A true love's kiss!" Peter exclaimed as he snapped his fingers together.

"Alright, Miss _______, pucker up!" the boy said, giggling to himself. Peter brushed your hair out of your face and began to lean in closer to you. He hovered over your lips for a moment, a little nervous. "What if it doesn't work?" he whispered. The young boy soon shook his thoughts away. He was only a centimeter away when he paused again. "Should I grab her cheek?" he wondered. He decided to do so and closed his eyes. Peter Kirkland was about to have his first kiss before Arthur.

"Artie, is that you?" you barely breathed, trying to open an eye. The sun blinded you, so you could only see the outline of the figure above you. "It is you, isn't it?" you murmured before wrapping your arms around Arthur's brother's neck. You lifted your head up slightly to meet the lips that were waiting for you. "I knew you'd come back!" you said after the kiss was finished.

"What are you talking about, _______? I've been here the whole time." a prepubescent voice questioned.

Your eyes widened, and you immediately dropped your arms to the metal ground. "Peter?" you asked, in disbelief.

"That's me! It looks like my true love's kiss worked! Well, sort of. You kissed me." Peter recalled, blushing.

You were blushing, too. Great, now the kid knows about your crush on his older brother, or does he? You decided to find out. Before you could even think of an idea, Peter answered your question for you.

"Um, Miss _______, I'm in love with you. I might as well tell you since we kissed and all. And I was wondering, since we kissed, does that mean we're married? The war's over." the naïve boy questioned. He looked up at you with puppy eyes.

You were happy that the war was officially over, but not overjoyed. After all, little Peter Kirkland gave you hope the entire time. You didn't want to crush the poor boy's hopes. You were about to speak, but then you got up, finally paying attention to other things besides the boy. "Peter... the fort... it's on fire!" you screamed.

"Oh, I know. I was waiting for you to wake up and put it out. Now that you're awake, you can fix everything!" the boy sang.

You had to leap into action. For a fortress on the sea, there wasn't that much water available on the deck. You did the best you could, eventually putting an end to the flames.

The place was a wreck, so you couldn't help but hope that Arthur was returning soon. You see, Peter's big brother, Arthur was the one who was in charge of the military fort. Then, he actually went off to fight in World War II, leaving you and Peter here.

To be honest, the fort wasn't in the best condition. There were constant leaks, it smelled bad, and the food was awful. The whole thing was like the portaloo of England. You didn't complain about it, though. You were safe here, well besides the fire. Alright, you hated the stupid fortress.

On the flip side, Peter loved it. Ever since Arthur left, he started to pretend that he was the king of the land of the sea. That name was a little long, so he began to call himself the king of Sealand.

Most little kids think that the name Bob is funny. Peter finds amusement in the name Larry. For some strange reason, Peter became bored of being the king, so he decided to call himself "Super Larry". Peter, excuse me, "Super Larry", made you call him this name, too.

It was all just fun and games up until now.

"Peter, do you want me to be honest with you?" you decided to say, out of the blue.

"Hm, let me think about that." the boy responded with a finger on his lip. He didn't pause for long and continued, "I only want you to be honest with me if I want you to!".

"Do you want me to?" you asked.

"It depends. What are we talking about?" he eagerly asked.

    "The kiss." you answered, red.

"Oh, alrighty then, you can be honest!" he decided, smiling.

This was already proving to be a lot harder than you thought. That bright smile of his blinded you. That innocent puppy look in his eyes made your heart tremble.

"About the kiss, and about the marriage..." you started. You took in a deep breath. "I thought you were your brother Arthur, so you see, we don't have to get married." you explained.

He looked like a little abandoned puppy as he cried, "But, I love you!". Tears started overflowing from his once bright blue eyes.

"I know, I'm sorry." you told him, crying a bit yourself.

"Why do you like Arthur? He's nothing but a... a... big dream crushing liar face hole! I hate him! I hope he's dead and never ever comes back. I hate him!" little Peter immaturely screamed at you before running off.

You ran after him, tears clouding up your vision. This was all your fault. "Peter!" you weakly called out to him. "Peter, please don't hate Arthur because of me." you told him.

The little boy stopped, his small back slowly rising and falling. "It isn't because of you." he mumbled. Peter pivoted to face you. "He's not coming back, _______. Forget about him. I have." the bright boy darkly warned you.

"What? Of course he's coming back. The war only ended a few moments ago, right?" you checked.

"It was over a few days ago. Arthur said that he'd return the day after unless he's dead. He's dead, _______." he told you, his face down and eyes dark.

"You don't know that! I'm sure it's hard getting around now. He's probably looking for a way to get to us right now." you cried, in complete denial.

"I don't think so. I bet that if he's alive, he forgot about us." the boy said.

"Well I don't think that. Let's have a little more hope. This is Arthur we're talking about, he would just forget." you reassured him, really reassuring yourself.

"Why do you even want Arthur to come back so badly? He's just a big meanie. Besides, I bet I love you way more than he does. I may be small, but I have a big heart." he told you, brightening up a bit.

You smiled. This little boy just ripped your hope in Arthur to shreds, replacing it with a new hope in him. "I guess we could have some fun without him. He's a stick in the mud, after all." you shyly added.

"That's the spirit, _______! Great Britain will rue the day they left us behind! Now since I'm Super Larry, I declare our countries independence from the big poopy butt Great Britain!" Peter announced.

You couldn't help but join in.

There on that abandoned fortress with an abandoned little boy, you found hope. Things weren't so bad. The war was finally over. You laughed thinking about how a time of sadness and tragedy seemed to have no effect on you. Maybe it was because you were in the country of Sealand. You knew the real reason, deep down in your big heart.

"From the Sea, Freedom!" you both yelled.
